BioWare has more than three decades of history in game development. The closure ends the current development of the next Mass Effect title, which the three cited publications identify as cancelled.
Electronic Arts is also set to dismiss 400 employees in connection with the measures reported by the publications. Clarín says that about 50 of those positions would be at BioWare.
Clarín links the studio’s closure and the cancellation of Mass Effect to the layoffs at Electronic Arts. The publication says BioWare announced the shutdown on social media, while EA representatives had not responded to a request for comment about the job cuts at the time of its report.
The available reporting does not establish the exact date on which the closure and cancellation took effect. October 22, 2026 is the publication date supplied for the cited reports, not a confirmed date for the measures themselves.
EL PAÍS also said Electronic Arts would concentrate on fewer large-scale action-and-adventure games while continuing development of Marvel’s Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi.
