The South China Morning Post reported that Kenya’s health ministry announced the death of the woman, who developed symptoms while in quarantine. The ministry said she had been showing symptoms for about 10 days.
According to the South China Morning Post, she received supportive care at an infectious disease unit in Nairobi before dying on Friday evening. The report said the ministry had announced that medical personnel had done everything possible to save her life.
The BBC reported that the woman was a close family member of the first Ebola patient, a man who had travelled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Hindu reported that seven other Ebola patients remained in treatment at two isolation facilities. It also said that no new infections had been reported.
The confirmed reports establish the second fatality and the woman’s relationship to the first patient. Details about the remaining patients and the absence of newly reported infections come from The Hindu’s account, while information about the woman’s symptoms, treatment and death was reported through the South China Morning Post’s account of the health ministry announcement.
