Euronews reported that equities-trading revenue rose 50% in the quarter. It also said the buyback had been approved by the European Central Bank and was expected to begin in November. The publication reported third-quarter net income of €3.46 billion, up 13.5% from a year earlier and above the €3.23 billion analyst expectation cited by the bank.
The results came as investors focused on possible pressure from the bond market and the bank’s exposure to French debt. According to Euronews, BNP Paribas played down those concerns and said its exposure to France’s fiscal crisis was limited. The publication reported that the bank held approximately €19 billion in French government bonds, with about €16 billion booked at amortised cost.
