Ernie Johnson has announced that he will step away from hosting “Inside the NBA” after the 2026–27 season. The decision will end his 37-year run as host of the show.
Johnson has hosted “Inside the NBA” since 1990, according to Yahoo Sports. The same report said he described the decision as his alone and added, “It’s just time.”
Yahoo Sports also reported that Johnson will retire as host in June, but the supplied evidence does not establish an exact date or independently confirm that the reference is specifically to June 2027. CBS Sports reported that Johnson is 70.
The supplied reports do not identify a successor or confirm what “Inside the NBA” will look like after Johnson’s departure. The announcement therefore establishes the end of his hosting tenure, while leaving the show’s subsequent format and lineup unresolved.
