The Hill reported that Trump repeatedly attacked Fox News on social media before calling into the network on election night. The episode placed the network at the center of his response to the Republican losses, although the supplied reporting does not establish that Fox News caused the result or how much influence it had on voters.
Trump’s criticism also included a complaint about Fox News putting Bill de Blasio on air, according to The Hill. The report’s account shows that his objections extended beyond a general assessment of the network’s coverage to specific programming decisions.
The dispute was notable because The Guardian reported that Fox News pundits offered little criticism of Trump during its midterm coverage. That contrast formed the central tension in the episode: Trump assigned blame to a network whose hosts, according to the Guardian, had largely avoided attacking him.
CNBC reported that Trump blamed Fox News for the Republican losses while the network’s ratings were declining. The supplied report does not provide ratings figures or explain the reasons for the decline, so its scale and significance cannot be assessed from the available evidence.
The available sources establish Trump’s accusation and the sequence of his criticism, but not the exact size or detailed results of the Republican losses. They also do not independently establish whether Fox News materially influenced the election outcome, leaving the question of responsibility unresolved beyond Trump’s claim.
